Botak Paa-Tibayan Takbo

Me and hubby is already registered for the Botak Paa-Tibayan this coming May 10. I was kinda hesitant in registering for I'm still traumatized of my experience in the last Botak Paa-Bilisan held last year October. It's not the running experience I'm talking about but the incident that happened to our vehicle wherein we lost our almost brand new SLR camera. But since we have installed alarm on our car, I'm at peace that nothing would ever happen to us twice.

So after the Greenfiled Run event last Sunday, me and hubby registered for the event. I will be running 10K again and 42K for my hubby. It would be his first ever marathon. See you all there. :)

Kids are blessings

I' am proud to say that me and my husband have been blessed by the Lord with two wonderful kids. We've been married for three years before I got pregnant and it was s surprise that I was carrying twin babies.

Being a mother is a combination of almost everything. You get to be a teacher, a doctor, an dentist, a hairdresser, a chef, a friend, a companion to name a few. And it's so rewarding if you see your kids achieve something even at a tender age. I'm not a pushy mother, I let my kids choose what they want to wear, what they want to eat (but it must be healthy and nutritious), what they want to do. Both me and my husband believe in letting our kids have their own identity and speak whats on their mind but not to the point that they will be disrespectful towards us. Even at their studies, we are here to guide them and teach them in a manner that we think is best and suited for them.

For this school year they've been awarded at school and I'm one proud mama. My kid even told me that next school year they would even give me more medals.

When a runner cannot run

My family and I just came back from a three day vacation from Clark. Nope, we didn't go home to either Laguna or Baguio for some much needed vacation. We know too well that both of this place would be full of people who has same mindset --- long holiday. We stayed at Holiday Inn Clark for 2 nights to have some rest, we spent a lot of time on the pool and in bed, plus my kids get to participate in the hotel's Egg Hunt. It would also been a good time for some run but a very, very bad thing happened to my foot or my toenail to be exact. Here are my accounts of my vacation and mishappening of my foot.

Thursday....

It was my scheduled pedicure last Thursday but because most of salons were not open I operated on my feet instead. While digging to my big toenail, I accidentally dug too much and felt a little pain, since I saw no blood I continued with the surgery and Alas! it was successful. Yipee! I was able to save some money, instead of paying a manicurist I did the job well. (or that's what I thought).

Friday....

We just stayed at home for our accommodation at the hotel would be on Saturday to Monday. We just watched movie and went out later in the afternoon for some KFC chicken and pizza at Pizzahut. It was an ordeal finding a store which opened on that day, but we did find one in Araneta Center. (My toenail is feeling a little sore)

I forgot to tell that we went around the Metro and stopped by Baywalk and saw this:

Having a picnic on the Manila Bay grounds

These families opted to spend their Good Friday by swimming and having a picnic at the Manila Bay

Saturday....

I packed the things that needed to be brought in our stay at Clark, I included my running, biking and swimming clothes for the three days stay at Clark, we will be running the New Balance route as what we did last February when we went there for the Hot Air Balloon Festival. We arrived at 4PM in Clark, my kids were excited about the swimming and once we got there immediately changed to their swimsuits, my beautiful Rebeccah accidentally stepped on my injured toenail while she was excitedly hugging and  kissing me. I shouted in pain and looked at my poor toenail, the sore became SORE!  I self medicated taking pain killers and antibiotics, I don't want it to become worse! And so my foot rested.

Sunday....

It's Easter Sunday! I dressed up my kids and went to garden of the hotel. When we got there, the program was already starting and so is the game but good thing the egg hunt haven't started yet. There were lots of kids who joined and it was a fun, Clarky was also there (he is the official mascot of Clark who according to the front desk officer celebrated his birthday yesterday) My kids get 7 eggs in total, 4 for Rachelle and 3 for Rebeccah, it's quite a few but its okay. They won prizes in the games, they got a loot bag from Jack TV which was one of the sponsors.

Monday....

My esposo woke up early for a bike ride along with his brother. Too bad, I cannot come for my toenail had enough suffering so I just opted to swim with my two kids. Good thing is that it was still early so there were only few people in the pool area. We played and enjoyed in the pool for two hours and went back to the room to shower and packed for we had to check out. At exactly 11AM, we were on the road to Manila, back to reality and back to the normal life.

As I' am writing this, my toenail is in stinging pain. I wanted to post its picture but I'd rather not for it's too gruesome, for now me and my toenail would heal together, my toenail from the pain of its affliction and me from the pain of not running. I won't run it Greenfield this Sunday but I would be there, salivating in envy as I watch runners cross the finish line. But this is not the end for me and my foot, we would come back with a vengeance. :D

See you all! (my toenail says) :)

A Salute to the Bataan UltraRunners

I salute all the runners who participated in the recently concluded Bataan 102 Ultramarathon, and to Mr. Narcise "Baldrunner" for coming up with an event. I know in myself that I would NOT be up for this challenge (even in my lifetime) but it would be great to volunteer for such a race. I do hope in the next Bataan 102, I would be able to  volunteer for this race. Congratulations to all the finishers and participants!

Preparation for Trail Run

Here are some tips in preparation for  a trail run.

1) Anyone can participate in trail running. Trails are actually more forgiving on the body as opposed to road running and pounding the pavement. Trail running can help "cushion the joints.

2) Gear. Try a hand-held water bottle, a torso pack, fanny pack or Camelbaks. Bring an energy gel or energy bar for nourishment. Trail shoes, Dri-Fit or wicking shirt, shorts and a great pair of socks are a must! If your feet feel good, you feel good.

3) Blisters are common when starting out. Sprinkle some baby powder in your socks or use petroleum jelly on your feet. It helps reduce the friction and provides a lubricant to keep them from chafing.

4) Map your route. Research your trail run. Before going out, make sure you tell someone where you are going and about how long you expect to be gone.

5) Don't be afraid to ask for advice or help from experienced trail runners. Most veterans are more than happy to run with beginners.

6) Trail running is a total body workout. Your core, upper body, and lower body all get a rigorous workout as trails require balance, agility and stability.

7) Be patient. Trail running, unlike road running, is not about personal records. Run for time, rather than mileage and be sure to enjoy the views!
